On Monday, April 24, 2023, I acted as Newmarket High School’s grade ten representative at the Student Outreach Meeting organized annually by the York Region Presidents’ Council. It was an amazing networking opportunity held at the Center for Leadership and Learning in Newmarket with a turnout of around 120 student leaders. We discussed the YRPC’s role and impact; Student Trustee elections and what we could do to encourage applicants and voter participation; and the school board’s budget, brainstorming areas where we could cut and allocate funds, and ways in which we could promote financial efficiency. The atmosphere we built was lively and personally inspiring, and I look forward to working with the YRPC as I continue my high school education.
