I recently had the chance to participate in Newmarket High School’s very first Art-A-Thon on Thursday, April 27, 2023. It was a fundraising event where art students pledged to create murals on the school walls for 12 hours straight in order to promote inclusivity and an arts awareness throughout the school community.
My team worked alongside the science department to paint a mural portraying the growth of the student mind. On the inside, there are strands of DNA, neurons, and a bug to complete the cyclical shape and represent life. The head itself is surrounded with explosions to symbolize the experimental part of science and learning. With our design, we hoped to promote the message that life is a wondrous thing, and that science plays an integral part in allowing one to truly experience life.
The mural is not done yet, because sometimes twelve hours fails to be enough time, but it was still an incredible experience and I look forward to doing this event again next year!
