The Ethics Bowl is a chance to discuss prevalent ethical issues in our society in a constructive and meaningful way. This is my third year participating in the Ethics Bowl, and insofar, it has been a very special year.
Last year, I led my team “The Quackers” in our participation in the Regional Qualifiers at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. I also had the opportunity to mentor a total of nineteen participants from Newmarket High School that were split amongst three teams. To learn more, you can see my previous blog post, https://www.ishitajain.com/post-74-ontario-ethics-bowl/.
This year, we have received exponentially more interest from our school. I had the privilege of guiding 30+ students split into five teams all from different grades as many of them made their first forage into the Ethics Bowl. “The Quackers” made a comeback, and I worked tirelessly for months with my team to tackle these eight new cases and bring our best stride forward.
On February 8, 2025, all five of our teams participated in the Regional Qualifiers at the University of Toronto St. George Campus. There are three rounds guaranteed for all of the teams, and then the top ten teams partake in the fourth round. Every match was intense, but my team, the “Quackers,” won all three of our preliminary rounds and made it to the fourth…
We won this match as well.
I am so proud to announce that my team was one of the finalists of the Regional Bowl and have qualified to partake in Provincials in March of 2025!
I am ecstatic for the next phase of the competition and to engage in more intellectually stimulating conversations!
